A Delicious Milestone: Celebrating My Business Birthday with Edible Branding

This week marks an important milestone for Beth Morris Workshops - our business birthday. And to celebrate, I was treated to something truly unforgettable: my logo, baked into biscuits and doughnuts.

The Early Days: Where It All Began

Starting out, I thought having a logo meant I had a business, and with a business, people would book workshops. I already had the credentials: a PGCE, a master’s in art and design, and even a couple of published art books. But it was that first logo sketch, a pencil and needle symbolising art and stitch, that truly made everything feel real.

I sent my rough idea to my friend Mark at Polar10 and asked, “How much to design my logo?” His answer? “A bottle of wine.” That bottle of wine became the best investment I ever made. The very next day, thanks to Mark’s talent, Beth Morris Workshops had a logo…and a business was born.

Finding the Heart of My Brand

When the pandemic gave me unexpected downtime, I finally had space to focus on what my brand really stood for. That’s when Liz Mosley, a branding expert and dear friend, stepped in. Through countless calls (and many brainstorms), Liz helped me develop:

  • A vibrant colour palette

  • A versatile toolkit of social media images

  • A confident, recognisable brand identity

Together, we translated the essence of my workshops: creativity, warmth, and community into graphic visuals that truly reflected what I wanted to share with the world.

Summer Celebrations and a Sweet Surprise

This summer, we held a private viewing and garden party to showcase the ‘Inspired at Insole’ exhibition, featuring artwork from everyone in our community, no matter their age or experience. It was magical to see all those pieces come together in one space, each one shining with the spirit of creativity.

And then came the surprise highlight: the amazing team at Let Them See Cake transformed my logo into shortbread biscuits and doughnuts! The doughnuts captured the playful spots from my branding, while the biscuits proudly displayed the logo I once sketched on a scrap of paper. Watching people enjoy these edible versions of my brand was a heartwarming, full-circle moment.

Reflections on the Journey

From a simple pencil sketch and a bottle of wine to a thriving community of artists and creatives, this journey has been incredible. Every workshop attendee, every shared piece of art, every smile and every biscuit has helped shape what Beth Morris Workshops is today.

Thank you to everyone who has joined us on this adventure. I can’t wait to see where the next chapter leads, and who knows? Maybe more edible branding is on the menu.
