Finding Your Painting Style

£165.00
sold out

Thursdays 7:15-8:45

Starting Thursday 1st May 2025

12 week term with a break for half term

Taught by Amanda Turner

During this course not only will you learn the basics of oil painting, but you’ll also be supported to find your own artistic voice and style. You’ll learn the skills necessary to get you started on your artistic journey.

The starting point will always be research and drawing…then through experimentation with different subject matters, styles, and techniques, you’ll find your own unique way of capturing the world. You will learn the basics of colour theory and colour mixing. We’ll look to other artists throughout history for inspiration but there will also be a focus on your own interests and outlook.

You’ll go on your own journey of artistic discovery within a friendly, relaxed and supportive environment. Amanda will be there throughout to offer plenty of assistance and guidance.

If you are wondering if this is the course for you, ask yourself: Why do you want to create art? What do you want to say or capture? What do you find beautiful or moving? Do you prefer landscapes, portraits, still life or abstract art? Are you drawn to traditional or modern art? Do you like detailed realism or loose impressionistic brushwork? Do bright colours make you feel energised, or do you prefer calm, earthy tones? These are the sort of questions we’ll be asking and we’ll find the answers through reflection and experimentation. Each week we’ll be asking questions but your answers will all be different.

By the end of the 12 weeks you will have the chance to work on your own paintings and get closer to discovering your own visual language. All supplies will be provided, including water mixable oil paints. However we do advise that when you paint your more focussed pieces it may be a good idea to purchase your own paints so you can work at home. This course is suitable for all abilities, and absolutely fine for complete beginners.
