Stitch Stories
Tuesdays 10:00-11:30
Starting Tuesday 16th September 2025
12 week term with a break for half term
Taught by Beth Morris
Stitch Stories is more than just a textiles class—it’s a vibrant, welcoming community of makers who come together each week to explore the creative possibilities of hand embroidery. With a strong emphasis on artistic expression and contemporary design, this course breathes fresh life into traditional stitching techniques, encouraging participants to experiment, share ideas, and create meaningful textile works. Whether working on personal pieces or collaborative projects for exhibitions, charities, and community causes, the group is deeply connected by a shared love of making and storytelling through thread. It’s a space filled with inspiration, laughter, and mutual support, and with places in this long-running course in high demand, any opportunity to join is not to be missed.
It is taught by fashion and textiles tutor Beth Morris and we take inspiration for textiles and surface pattern from art, our social environments and of course Insole Court mansion house and grounds.
We deconstruct, re-construct, draw, paint, stitch, dye, rip, weave, embroider and embellish. This course will teach you how to challenge yourself and explore a world of colour, pattern and print. Some weeks we’ll work to a theme and others we’ll be inspired by artists and crafts people. We focus mostly on contemporary hand embroidery and artistic textile techniques.
This course is the chance to start a creative journey, where you’ll make new friends and share fantastic stitch stories. It’s a perfect opportunity to use up vintage fabrics and all those inspiring bits and pieces that have been in your sewing box for years!
