If you’ve ever wished you had an art tutor in your pocket, this is probably the closest thing you’ll find.
Inspiration Club is a dynamic and skills-focused creative workshop for secondary school students who want to develop their artistic abilities, discover new ideas and build confidence in their own creative voice. Think of it as a mini art foundation course, designed to sit alongside school studies while remaining fun, inspiring and completely free from the pressures of assessment.
At the heart of the course is the sketchbook. Students will learn how artists use sketchbooks as places to collect ideas, experiment with materials, record observations and develop projects. Over time, sketchbooks become a valuable creative resource, packed with inspiration that can be drawn upon for future coursework, personal projects and artistic development.
The course takes inspiration from the world around us. Film, music, fashion, social media, contemporary culture, design, illustration and everyday life all become starting points for creative exploration. Students are encouraged to look beyond the obvious, develop their curiosity and learn how artists transform ideas into exciting visual outcomes.
Throughout the course, students will explore:
Drawing and observational skills.
Painting and mixed-media techniques.
Contemporary and historical artists.
Illustration and visual storytelling.
Fashion, textiles and surface design.
Creative collage and composition.
Urban sketching and location drawing.
Graphic design and visual communication.
Digital creativity and contemporary image-making.
Research, experimentation and idea development.
Some sessions may take place outdoors, making use of the beautiful surroundings of Insole Court and encouraging students to engage directly with the world around them. Whether working from observation, responding to a theme or exploring a new technique, students are continually encouraged to take creative risks and push their ideas further.
What makes Inspiration Club different is that it doesn’t follow a rigid curriculum. Instead, it introduces students to the kinds of creative thinking, artistic processes and practical skills that support success across Art, Textiles, Photography, Design and other creative subjects. Without even realising it, students develop stronger observational skills, greater creative confidence and a deeper understanding of how artists work.
Many students see this class as an extension of their school studies, a place where they can experiment more freely, gain additional support and strengthen their artistic practice. Tutors are always happy to offer guidance and encouragement, helping students navigate creative challenges and develop the skills needed to flourish both inside and outside the classroom.
Most importantly, Inspiration Club is about making art because you love it. There are no exams, homework or assessments. Just a supportive community of young artists, exciting projects, new techniques to discover and sketchbooks filled with ideas waiting to happen.
