Textiles Club (secondary)

£110.00

Wednesday 5:30-6:45

11-18 secondary

Starting Wednesday 30th April 2025

10 week term with a break for half term -

Taught by Sally Durham

These sessions are taught by Sally Durham. The students will get a fantastic experience learning how to use hand sewing, embroidery, and fabric manipulation to express themselves creatively.

You will deconstruct, re-construct, draw, paint, stitch, dye, rip, weave, embroider and embellish. This course will teach you how to challenge yourself and explore a world of colour, pattern and print. Some weeks we’ll work to a theme and others we’ll be inspired by artists and crafts people. We will focus mostly on contemporary hand embroidery and artistic textile techniques. You will be able to make things that matter to you.

You will take textiles on an adventure and discover the fun side of hand stitch. Many schools are no longer offering textiles as an option, so it is an excellent way to encourage stitch as a skill, with a particular emphasis on creative freedom and stitching text, quotes and using thread as a drawing tool.

This textiles club for young people of secondary school age is unique in the fact that it does not follow a curriculum. But, enhances the students experience alongside their school work without even realising it. You will be shown techniques and how to use materials creatively to improve on your artistic/textile knowledge. Imagine it as an after school club where you learn and are inspired by your tutor and your peers. The great thing about this course is it is very much textiles for pleasure. There are no exams, homework or assessments. It is a place where students come to enjoy creating without limitations or pressure.
