Sketchers - brain injury art club - afternoon

Thursdays 1:00-2:30

Starting Thursday 16th January 2025

Term time

Taught by Beth Morris

Please express your interest. You will not be charged but will be added to the waiting list and contacted by Beth. Current students retain their places, and if we have a space for you, Beth will be in contact.

This weekly art club focus on art as a therapeutic activity for health and well-being for up to 12 adults (carers/support staff may also join in if we have space)

You may have a Tramatic Brain Injury (TBI) an injury to the brain caused by a trauma to the head (head injury). or an Acquired Brain Injury(ABI) where brain injury has occurred since birth, or illness as well as tumour, stroke, brain aneurysm or haemorrhage, encephalitis, hydrocephalus.

Words from our funder Rhiannon Stokes of Stokes Case Management “The artistic results of the students in such a short time of learning are pretty incredible! Beth’s guidance has drawn out hidden talents as she has encouraged and gently pushed the artists to challenge themselves and try new things. She has also enabled them to see what might be perceived as a dreadful error, can in fact be turned into something beautiful. The classes are calming and encourage the artists to be still, to focus, and forget about everything else. One ‘Sketcher’ described the classes as a ‘spoonful of honey’ and they count down the days until their next meet. Confidence within The ‘Sketchers’ group has increased, not just in their abilities but also in working as a group to inspire each other.”

Sharing this creative learning experience has proved to be beneficial with some great memories and friendship being created.

Every year we exhibit in The National Brain Appeal’s ‘Letter In Mind’ exhibition and auction raising valuable funding for people with brain and neurological disorders. We also love a trip and visit galleries often, and go out for luch together (with our sketchbooks of course 😉) We’ve even been on TV. See the homepage to watch our BBC - The One Show film.
