Adult workshop

(but GCSE and A-Level students are very welcome to join in. It will be a great skills workshop for those taking creative subjects)

WORKSHOP:

Basket Weaving with La Basketry - Traditional craft with a modern twist

Join us for a special day of basket-weaving with Tabara N’Diaye, founder of La Basketry, and explore the timeless art of stake and strand, an age-old weaving technique passed down through generations.

In this immersive, hands-on workshop, you’ll create your own beautiful basket bag using bundles of natural centre cane. You’ll start by weaving the flat base (or slath), then add vertical stakes to shape the sides before securing your handle.

As you work, you’ll soak, soften, bend and weave the cane gaining a real appreciation for this traditional craft and its gentle, rhythmic process. The day is relaxed and sociable; the chat flows easily and learning together is very much encouraged. This workshop is about connection as you weave - slowing down, sharing stories, and finding joy in the making.

If there’s a little time left at the end, you’ll also have the chance to weave a simple heart - a lovely keepsake and a reminder of your day.

All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed, just curiosity, creativity and a love of making.
