Adult workshop

(but GCSE and A-Level students are very welcome to join in. It will be a great skills workshop for those taking creative subjects)

WORKSHOP:

Join us for a wonderfully nostalgic day of mixed media creativity with guest artist Becky Adams, exploring storytelling, treasured memories and the magic of miniature making.

Becky is a mixed media artist whose beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations combine vintage materials, personal stories and a wonderful sense of whimsy. Inspired by her childhood memories of summer caravan holidays on the Gower Peninsula, Becky will guide you through creating your very own miniature caravan, full of character, charm and personal touches.

Working from Becky's specially designed template, you'll transform cardstock, old book covers, vintage fabrics and ephemera into a delightful three-dimensional artwork. Along the way, you'll discover imaginative mixed media techniques, from fashioning tiny wheels using cotton reels to constructing miniature hinged doors and decorating your caravan with little strings of bunting.

This workshop is as much about storytelling as it is about making. You're encouraged to bring along old family photographs, holiday memories or small keepsakes that you might like to incorporate into your creation, making it truly personal.

All materials will be provided, including a wonderful selection of vintage fabrics and ephemera from the studio and Becky's collection.

A day of imagination, nostalgia and creative discovery, with a beautiful little caravan full of memories to take home and treasure.

Artist / Maker / Tutor:

Becky Adams is an applied artist living and working in the Vale of Glamorgan. Her practice centres on creating artist books, textiles and objects that tell a story.

Drawing on her love of storytelling and memory, Becky combines paper, vintage fabric, sketchbooks and found objects to create intricate textile and book works. Themes of souvenir, preservation and the fleeting moment weave gently through all she makes.

In recent years, Becky has been exploring the boundaries of what a book can be, pushing its form, structure and narrative possibilities. Her work often treats books themselves as objects to manipulate, transforming both the stories they hold and the materials they’re made from.

Becky studied Fine Art and English Literature in Liverpool (BA Hons, 1994) and later gained an MA in Book Arts from Camberwell (2001). Her career has been recognised with awards including People’s Choice at Welsh Artist of the Year (2011), Welsh Maker of the Year at Made by Hand, Tredegar House, and a Creative Wales Award from the Arts Council of Wales (2012).

Most recently Becky received an Arts Council of Wales Create Award, which culminated in a solo exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre in 2026.

Alongside her studio practice, Becky runs workshops and artist residencies throughout the UK, past residencies include Ruthin Craft Centre, King’s Lynn Museum, Chitraniketan (Southern India), Queenswood School for Girls and Plas Newydd. Her work is held in the Tate, V&A, and London School of Printing collections.

Becky Adams is, above all, a collector of stories. Each of her pieces carries the quiet trace of human experience, a balance of past, present and possibility, stitched with care, layered with vintage fabric and antique ephemera, and alive with the poetry of things preserved.

What is included in the ticket price?

Most equipment and materials that you need for the workshop are included, but you will find a deeper connection to your work if you bring some of your own bits and pieces. More info closer to the time.
