'Christmas Watercolour' with Ellie Hooi
30th November 2025
Sunday
10:00-4:00
Adult workshop
(but GCSE and A-Level students are very welcome to book this. It will be a great skills workshop for those taking art)
Workshop Description:
Learn key techniques to create your own watercolour illustration with this course for beginners and improvers.
Join us for a festive workshop where you’ll be inspired by Christmas paraphernalia and Ellie’s much-loved classic animals! Using watercolour paints and fineliners, you’ll start with a series of fun warm-up exercises, sketching seasonal favourites like holly, candy canes, and baubles. Once you’re feeling confident, Ellie will guide you step by step in creating and painting one of her signature mice, holding a sprig of holly or mistletoe, as well as a charming festive robin. By the end of the session, you’ll have the skills and artwork to transform your watercolour pieces into a beautiful handmade card or Christmas tags, perfect for sharing some extra holiday cheer.
Whether you are new to drawing or a budding illustrator, Ellie will guide you through the key techniques have led her to become a much loved and admired artist.
Artist / Maker / Tutor:
Ellie is an illustrator and stationery producer from Cardiff, Wales. She set up Ellie Hooi Illustration to create and share handmade watercolour illustrations, and to make greeting cards that would bring a smile to someone’s day through the joy of a handwritten card. Ellie has developed a large social media following and regular shares films of her bringing her characters to life through paint.
Ellie is mainly inspired by the local wildlife and seasonal produce that she grows at her allotment. Her characters have their own personalities and you can almost hear their little conversations, which makes me wonder is Ellie Cardiff’s very own Beatrix Potter?
What is included in the ticket price?
All art supplies are provided but you are welcome to bring your own along too if you prefer.
Tea, coffee and biscuits.
Where will the workshops take place?
In Beth’s studio at Insole Court, Cardiff.
Please read all the T’s and C’s before booking.
