WORKSHOP:

Come Sail With Me - a Magical Paper Boat workshop with Becky Adams

A gentle voyage of creative discovery

Join artist Becky Adams for a day of imagination and making as you construct, embellish and decorate your own paper boat, ready to set sail for magical lands.

Created especially for Beth Morris Workshops, this beautiful, hands-on session combines paper craft, stitch, and storytelling. Becky will provide a template for the hull of your boat and guide you through each step of construction before you begin to decoupage with vintage papers and antique ephemera.

You’ll then move on to design and make your sails and bunting, measuring and embellishing each with hand embroidery, stitch, and appliqué. Finally, you’ll mount and rig your sails on a mast of your choice, perhaps made from an old ruler, knitting needle or antique dip pen, all treasures from Becky’s eclectic studio collection.

Becky is known for her playful repurposing of materials and will bring along a selection of vintage finds to share on the day. You’re also welcome to bring your own small keepsakes, trinkets and fabrics to weave into your creation, adding your own story and sentiment to the piece.

This is a dreamlike, tactile workshop calm, curious, and filled with quiet wonder. You’ll leave with your own unique little boat to treasure, its sails stitched with memories and imagination.

Bon Voyage….

Artist / Maker / Tutor:

Becky Adams is an applied artist living and working in the Vale of Glamorgan. Her practice centres on creating artist books, textiles and objects that tell a story.

Drawing on her love of storytelling and memory, Becky combines paper, vintage fabric, sketchbooks and found objects to create intricate textile and book works. Themes of souvenir, preservation and the fleeting moment weave gently through all she makes.

In recent years, Becky has been exploring the boundaries of what a book can be, pushing its form, structure and narrative possibilities. Her work often treats books themselves as objects to manipulate, transforming both the stories they hold and the materials they’re made from.

Becky studied Fine Art and English Literature in Liverpool (BA Hons, 1994) and later gained an MA in Book Arts from Camberwell (2001). Her career has been recognised with awards including People’s Choice at Welsh Artist of the Year (2011), Welsh Maker of the Year at Made by Hand, Tredegar House, and a Creative Wales Award from the Arts Council of Wales (2012).

She is currently working on an Arts Council of Wales Create Project, which will culminate in a solo exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre from March to June 2026.

Alongside her studio practice, Becky runs workshops and artist residencies throughout the UK, past residencies include Ruthin Craft Centre, King’s Lynn Museum, Chitraniketan (Southern India), Queenswood School for Girls and Plas Newydd. Her work is held in the Tate, V&A, and London School of Printing collections.

Becky Adams is, above all, a collector of stories. Each of her pieces carries the quiet trace of human experience, a balance of past, present and possibility, stitched with care, layered with vintage fabric and antique ephemera, and alive with the poetry of things preserved.

What is included in the ticket price?

Most equipment and materials that you need for the workshop are included, but you will find a deeper connection to your work if you bring some of your own bits and pieces. More info closer to the time.
