Golden Hour - Painting with Kate Broadhurst
Saturday 16th August 2025
10:00-4:00
Adult workshop
(but GCSE and A-Level students are very welcome to join in. It will be a great skills workshop for those taking art)
The Workshop:
Join us for this unique one-day workshop where you’ll learn to capture the beauty and atmosphere of the golden hour—those breathtaking moments at sunrise and sunset—using watercolour and gouache paints. Led by artist Kate Broadhurst, this workshop is designed for beginners and improvers alike, offering a relaxed and inspiring environment to develop your skills.
Throughout the day, you’ll explore techniques for painting smooth gradients and luminous washes, essential for recreating the warm glow and soft light of golden hour skies. Kate will guide you through avoiding common pitfalls like overblending and muddy colours, helping you keep your hues fresh, vibrant, and true to nature. You’ll also learn how to paint expressive, natural-looking clouds and discover how to use values effectively to create depth and a sense of distance in your landscapes.
We’ll provide a selection of beautiful reference images to work from, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own sunset photos if there’s a special moment you’d love to recreate. All materials—including watercolour paper, postcards, and a full range of paints—will be provided, so you can simply turn up and enjoy a day of creativity. By the end of the session, you’ll take home your own stunning collection of golden hour artworks, ready to display or share.
