Nature Journaling with Kate Broadhurst
Saturday 26th July 2025
10:00-4:00
Adult workshop
(but GCSE and A-Level students are very welcome to join in. It will be a great skills workshop for those taking art)
The Workshop:
In this beautiful workshop you'll learn the art of creating a nature journal using a variety of sketching techniques and materials. Inspired by the stunning grounds at Insole Court, you’ll learn how to use art as a way to connect more closely to the natural world, opening up all of your senses and documenting your findings through creativity.
A relaxed, restorative art class where you will be gently guided to discover pen and watercolour techniques to create your own beautiful nature sketches to take home. Nature journalling is for everyone and this workshop is suitable for all levels, even absolute beginners!
You’ll learn:
- Reasons to keep a nature sketchbook and the benefits of taking time out to observe and connect to the outdoors
- What supplies you really need in your sketch kit and how to keep it minimal and portable
- Pen drawing techniques including line work and shading.
- Ways to use an ‘aquabrush’ (a really handy tool for painting on the go)
- Watercolour techniques including brush control, blending ‘wet in wet’ and layering
- How to simplify your subject and sketch quickly and loosely
For this workshop you will be encouraged to work outdoors so please dress appropriately for the weather.
