WORKSHOP:

Painting with Paper - Winter Florals & Still Life Collage with Andrea Curtis

In this full-day workshop you’ll explore colour, mark making and print to create spectacular papers that can be collaged into a still-life artwork. This winter edition takes its cue from seasonal florals, think hellebores, winter blooms, seed heads, evergreens, and the quiet colours of the colder months.

Drawing on her own practice, Andrea will guide you through the techniques she uses: expressive mark making, layered colour and texture, and “painting with paper.” You’ll also try monoprinting, creating decorative printed tissue papers that bring depth to your final piece.

As an interior consultant, Andrea has spent years developing colour schemes for homes and hotels. She knows how to build a cohesive winter palette and compose a piece that feels harmonious, something you’ll be proud to hang at home.

Under her guidance, you’ll:

  • Create your own marks and textures that feel uniquely yours

  • Build a seasonal colour palette that tells the story of winter florals

  • Monoprint and make layered tissue/painted papers for collage

  • Compose a still life featuring botanical forms (flowers, seed heads, foliage) with balanced structure and delicate surface detail

This is a relaxed, expressive way of working, no drawing or painting experience required. If you’d like a day full of collage, colour and winter inspiration, and to take home a gallery-worthy piece, this workshop is for you.

Artist / Maker / Tutor: Andrea Curtis

Andrea Curtis explores colour, pattern and still life through a blend of print, collage and drawing. At first glance her work may seem simple, but look closer and you’ll find a unique language of marks and colour layered through tissue and painted papers.

Still life and flowers are long-time favourites, objects and botanicals chosen for the stories they hold. Recent work introduces linocut and monoprint alongside painting and drawing to create more abstract, contemporary pieces.

Andrea graduated from West Surrey College of Art and Design with a BA in Textile Design, followed by an MA in Printmaking from Newport Art College. She also works as a colour consultant specialising in applied colour psychology:

“I love to show you how to use colour in the most effective way, to create an environment that supports, nurtures and inspires you and has a positive impact on your life.”

Andrea regularly exhibits across Wales, the UK and internationally, and is commissioned by designers for both domestic and commercial spaces.
