Comic Book Creation
Tuesday 19th August 2025
10:00-3:00
Age 7-14
Taught by Emma Prentice
Get ready for a full day of imagination, storytelling, and character creation in our action-packed Comic Book Creation workshop! Perfect for young artists who love to draw, doodle, and dream up stories, this workshop is all about bringing ideas to life on the page.
We’ll kick off the day with fun creative tasks and drawing games designed to help unlock imagination and develop brand new comic characters. Taking inspiration from classic comics like The Beano, we’ll look into the world of bold personalities like Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx, exploring how their looks, actions, and catchphrases shape their stories.
We’ll also take a look at the work of Oliver Jeffers and other illustrators who’ve created unforgettable characters for storybooks and graphic storytelling. Using miniature 3D characters, prompts, and props, children will spark new ideas and build their very own characters and plot-lines.
Throughout the day, young artists will learn how to structure a comic, create expressive characters, develop short storylines, and bring it all together with panels, speech bubbles, and colour. By the end of the session, each child will go home with their very own mini comic book ready to share with friends, family, and fellow comic fans!
Whether your child is a natural storyteller, a comic book enthusiast, or just loves to draw, this workshop is the perfect space to explore creativity, narrative, and visual fun in a supportive and playful environment.
Where will the workshops take place?
At the Beth Morris Workshops studio, The Dairy in the grounds of Insole Court, Cardiff. The children will create together around a large table.
Do they need a packed lunch and snacks?
Yes, they can sit in the workspace outside the studio, and in drier weather on the immediate paved /grassed area by the window. The tutor will be setting up for the next task at lunch so your child will need to be able to entertain themselves and chat with new friends. We cannot allow children to visit the cafe area if they are left in our care, so please supply a packed lunch, and drinks. You could also pick your child up at lunch time if you’d prefer.
Is there a discount for siblings?
Of course. If you are booking more than one child in the same household (siblings) onto a course please use the code WEAREFAMILY to take 10% off your overall in-person workshop booking. Please don’t use the code unless you are booking for siblings though. This is not a code for parents to book 2 friends on. It’s to support families with more than one child attending 😊 This code is only for children’s holiday workshops.
Do I have to adhere to the age guidelines when booking?
Yes please. I have years of teaching experience and I am the Mum of three, so I set the age limits for a reason. The tasks are age appropriate and the children / young people should all feel comfortable with their peers.
My child has additional learning needs - Is the workshop suitable?
We can not offer 1:1 support unfortunately, but if they can work semi-independently with 14 peers, they will love our fun inclusive and relaxed workshops. The tutor will make sure they understand the tasks and support them within the session. On booking, please email info@bethmorrisworkshops.co.uk with any extra information that will help us support your child so we can be fully prepared. You know your child best so please talk to us so we can help.
Does my child need to bring any materials or art supplies?
No, all materials are included in the price of the workshop, just don’t wear your best clothes!
