Painting Art Materials in Oils with Amanda Turner - MASTERCLASS

£85.00

Sunday 19th April 2026

10:00-4:00

This MASTERCLASS is for a mixed age group - suitable for younger people aged 11+ and also adults. It’s a great class to attend, alone, with friends, or also if parents / grandparents / and children want to come along together that works too.

The Workshop:

During this one-day Introduction to Oil Painting workshop, you’ll create a still-life painting full of character: a jam jar of brushes, squishy paint tubes, all the lovely studio clutter. We’ll keep things calm by tracing the image first, which lets you focus entirely on the skills that really matter. Amanda will take you through the core foundations of oil painting: understanding values, building a strong underpainting, mixing accurate colours, working with warm and cool tones, handling brushes, and learning how to layer oils so they behave beautifully.

Everything is broken down into clear, achievable stages, giving you a proper technical grounding while still keeping the atmosphere relaxed and fun. No experience needed, and all supplies are provided. You’ll spend the day developing your oil painting skills and head home with an oil painting you’ll be proud to show off.

The Artist:

Amanda Turner is a figurative oil painter based in South Wales. A self taught emerging artist, Amanda has been honing her oil painting skills over the last five years. She has largely focused on portraiture, with her recent collection of portraits of her children being exhibited in multiple locations, as well as one painting being awarded the first prize in the Cowbridge Open Arts exhibition 2022. As well as working on her own collections, Amanda works on commissions and delivering workshops. She is passionate about sharing her knowledge and love of oil painting. Amanda is a regular weekly tutor at Beth Morris Workshops. You can view her artwork on her Instagram page @amandaturnerart.

Supplies:

You will be painting on canvas boards with acrylic paint and water mixable oil paints. With water mixable oil paints you can experience the joys of traditional oil colour, but without the use of potentially hazardous solvents. They are genuine oil paints but can be thinned and brushes washed with water rather than mineral spirits or turps. Perfect for a group working within a studio space. All supplies are provided. Just bring yourself and wear clothes you don't mind getting paint on.

What is included in the ticket price?

All art supplies.

Tea, coffee, and biscuits 😊

Where will the workshops take place?

In Beth’s studio at Insole Court, Cardiff.
