'Through Drawing We Learn to See' with Kate Broadhurst - MASTERCLASS

£85.00

Sunday 22nd February 2026

10:00-4:00

mixed age: young people age 11+ and adults

The Workshop:

This is a brand-new Drawing & Painting Workshop taught by the brilliant Kate Broadhurst, perfect for young artists aged 11+ and adults who want to build real skills. The whole idea is that through drawing, we learn to see. Kate will guide you to slow down, really observe, and understand shape, tone, light and shadow in a way that makes your artwork stronger and more confident.

You’ll spend the first part of the session exploring pencils, different grades, how each one behaves, and how tone can create form, depth and that amazing shiny, reflective surface. Using these techniques, you’ll develop your own disco-ball drawings, learning how to capture sparkle, contrast and all the tiny mirrored reflections.

Then, in the second half, Kate will show you exactly why she’s a member of the Royal Water Colour Society of Wales. She’ll demonstrate how to take your tonal drawing and create a new one where you build colour by layering, blending and adding richness to turn your disco ball into something that really pops. This is where the drawing meets painting, and your work suddenly lifts into a whole new space.

It’s a brilliant session for beginners and improvers of all ages, a calm, creative workshop where you’ll learn to look more closely, develop your drawing and shading skills, experiment with colour, and enjoy a playful, sparkling subject along the way.
