Adult workshop

(but GCSE and A-Level students are very welcome to join in. It will be a great skills workshop for those taking art)

WORKSHOP:

The ultimate nostalgic workshop just in time for the festive season. Join Christine Kelly of Gentlework to create your very own Gentlework cloth doll or angel from Christine's original pattern. You will create and dress a very special doll, reminiscent of times gone and Christine will help you personalise her. You may choose to create a nature inspired Angel doll, with fabric, twig or paper wings, holding her own  nature treasure. Some of Christine's work will be on display to inspire you too.

Materials will be provided but please bring along some special bits of your own fabric and lace etc to personalise your work, particularly small pieces suitable for dolls clothing. Some basic sewing skills are required for this workshop and please bring along your own sewing kit, threads and fabric scissors if you prefer. This is a very personal workshop and you can choose to make a doll for yourself or as a gift. The more details you wish to include, vintage fabrics, buttons, brooches, memorable clothing, even little stitched words, the more meaningful this little doll will become.

Artist / maker / tutor:

Christine Kelly is a self taught embroiderer and textile artist, she is inspired by and uses vintage textiles producing detailed work with a subtle palette.

‘I create under the name ‘Gentlework’ and the pieces I create fuse my passion for time worn fabric with the comfort of hand stitching. I am drawn to faded, subtle hues and delicate, considered details.
I am inspired by the colours and beauty of nature (especially in its faded glory), the narrative of vintage textiles with all their meticulous work and stains and tears and my inner landscape and emotional experience. My creative process is a meditative experience and brings me calm.'
